Shoe Size Finder: Buying shoes made easy
You can feel ill-fitting and too-small shoes with every step. Children’s feet, with their still soft and malleable bones, are especially susceptible to deformities. With convenient shoe size finders from HELLMUT RUCK, you can quickly and reliably determine the correct measurements – so that children’s feet can develop and move freely within the shoe. Discover measuring systems for feet of all sizes and introduce the little ones to the fascinating world of foot health in a fun way.
Optimal foot health right from the start
Our feet carry us through life. Yet although they perform at their best every day, they are often neglected. With mechanical shoe size finders, you lay the foundation for healthy movement patterns, because suitable shoes are essential for proper functioning. Walking barefoot also strengthens the arch of the foot. With gentle care, the skin stays beautifully silky and perfectly protected against external influences. There is no time too early to impart this learning about the importance of strong and freely moving feet.
What foot measurement systems are available?
Whether plastic or cardboard: at RUCK, you can choose from various foot measurement systems. A simple angular design with a sliding gauge functions in some models to accurately determine foot length and inner foot length.
Different methods involve placing a heel support, positioning the foot against it and marking the tip of the toe with a strip of paper. This can be placed inside the chosen shoe to check the fit. If the strip is located flat, the shoe is ideal – if it curves upwards, the shoe is too small. Simple, but effective!
Shoe size finder: Practical not just for children and teenagers
Good to know: Most measurement systems and shoe size finders cover a wide range of sizes, such as from shoe size 18 to 45 or even 50. This means that it is not only children’s feet that can be measured accurately. After all, patients with foot deformities also benefit from individual sizing.
Foot measurement systems: Simple tools for use at home
If professional foot measuring systems provide the most precise results, using the following method and simple tools, patients or parents can easily determine at home when they or their children have outgrown their shoes.
- Have an adequate piece of cardboard or sturdy paper and a pencil ready.
- Stand upright, barefoot and centred on the paper or cardboard.
- Trace the shape of a foot as accurately as possible using the pencil.
- Shape the outline precisely and put it inside the shoe as a template.
If it fits easily, the shoe size is adequate. If the paper bulges, it’s time for a new pair of shoes. As feet swell during the day, the measurement should ideally be performed in the afternoon or evening. The same applies when buying shoes and having them measured in a specialist shoe shop.
How often children and adolescents need new shoes
Foot development is not complete until around the age of 15. Between the ages of 2 and 5, children’s feet grow by around one millimetre per month. This equates to one to two shoe sizes per year. It is therefore advisable to have their feet measured approximately every three months at a trusted specialist shoe shop. Then the foundation for healthy foot development is laid right from infancy.
