Light curing lamps are also known as UV nail lamps or nail dryers and are an indispensable part of modern nail care and beauty podiatry. They deliver even and lasting setting of UV nail polishes and UV gels in just a few seconds. How does a light curing lamp work?

Light-curing gels and nail polishes are used in conjunction with UV or LED lamps for nails. Depending on the model, they use LED or UV lamps or tubes, which deliver significantly faster setting for light-sensitive nail products compared to air-drying nail polish.

The setting time is in most cases:

  • 30 to 60 seconds per coat under LED light
  • Up to 120 seconds with UV light

By way of comparison, conventional nail polish takes between five and up to 30 minutes depending on the colour coat.

What is the difference between UV lamps and LED lamps?

The main difference between UV and LED nail light curing lamps lies in the curing time and the technology used:

  • UV light curing lamp: UV curing lamps for UV nail polish and UV gel are tunnel-type lamps with integrated UV light tubes. The interior includes a mirrored base plate and mirrored surfaces to ensure even and long-lasting curing.
  • LED light curing lamp: Despite the name UV products, LED lamps with modern diodes are widely used. Thanks to their wavelength, they enable significantly faster curing in up to 30 seconds – around four times faster than UV lamps.
