Skin nippers & cuticle nippers are used in pedicures and manicures as well as in podiatry. Their benefit lies in their sharp, usually bevelled blade, which allows for precise positioning and a highly good view of the skin or nail surfaces. Possible applications include:

What types of skin nippers & cuticle nippers are available?

Depending on the blade shape, finish and size, you will find skin nippers for various applications. The shape and length of the cutting edge vary depending on the model. In most cases, the blade is highly sharp and comes in a bevelled, straight or curved shape. Short to medium-length blades are suitable for delicate, precise work on skin and nails, whilst long blades are recommended for thicker skin remnants.

• Scissor-style handles: Skin nippers with scissor-style handles allow for precise filing and cutting of skin remnants and cuticles, even during delicate work on the skin, cuticles and spaces between the toes. They also provide an optimum view of the areas being processed. Thanks to their sharp, bevelled blade, they are the suitable instrument for removing small areas of callus or torn skin remnants.
• Spring handles: Skin forceps with straight handles (usually in a trapezium shape) can be found with either a single spring or a double spring. In both versions, the instruments provide a secure, ergonomic grip and excellent leverage. This is particularly important when working on thicker skin remnants. Versions with a double spring are suitable here, as they achieve greater leverage.
• Tweezers-style handles: A special type are skin forceps with a tweezers-style handle, which you grip between your thumb and index finger like a pair of tweezers to remove small skin particles.

How to use cuticle nippers & cuticle forceps

The directions for using cuticle nippers with a scissor grip and without springs are similar to the directions for working with nail scissors or small scissors. You use the cuticle nippers with two fingers rather than your entire hand. Furthermore, unlike the spring-loaded handle, the handles do not return to their original position. Cuticle and cuticle nippers with a spring-loaded handle, on the other hand, are operated by applying pressure with your entire hand. The springs yield to the pressure and return to their original position when the pressure is released. This delivers optimum leverage.

After use, it is advisable to follow up on nails with a nail file or cuticle pushers to smooth the nail surface or seal cut areas. Before and after use, it is also important to observe skin and hand hygiene along with careful disinfection of the instruments.
