Nail knives: High-quality podiatry instruments from HELLMUT RUCK
Specialised equipment and tools have been used for podiatry procedures to ensure safe and injury-free treatment. One of the most commonly used instruments is the nail knife. In the field of podiatry, nail knives are used, amongst other things, to assess the general health of toenails, as well as to treat nail problems and conditions. These conditions can have various causes. For example, a fungal infection, an ingrown nail, or an injury may be the reason for the health problems.
Podiatrists and foot care professionals can treat such medical issues by processing the affected nails in a specific way – nail knives make it easier for them to probe the nails and are also essential for various treatment methods, such as tamponading affected nail areas. Thanks to their special shape, they allow for safe handling and targeted treatment without the risk of injury. Like all our nail instruments, HELLMUT RUCK nail knives are made from stainless, highly robust, and wear-resistant steel. This makes them especially durable yet provides optimum cleaning and hygiene conditions.
As cleanliness and care are paramount in podiatry, nail knives must also always be cleaned and disinfected correctly. To this end, our product range has certified products for instrument disinfection, along with products for the hygienic cleaning and preparation of surfaces, and professional hygiene consumables.
What HELLMUT RUCK nail knives are used for
A nail knife is made up of a sharp blade attached to a handle or holder. The blade can come in various shapes and sizes – depending on the specific purpose for which it is used.
One of the most common problems for which nail knives are used in podiatry is ingrown toenails. If the nail grows into the surrounding tissue, this can lead to pain, inflammation, and other unpleasant symptoms.
In most cases, ingrown toenails are caused by cutting the toenails incorrectly or wearing shoes that are too tight. Podiatric treatment can resolve both the unpleasant symptoms and the underlying problem. Treating ingrown toenails can also minimise further health risks.
To treat an ingrown toenail optimally, the following should be observed: Correct disinfection of the area to be treated – as well as of the instruments used – prevents the transmission of germs, bacteria, or fungi that can lead to infection. A nail knife is then used to carefully remove part of the nail in order to reduce pressure on the surrounding tissue and relieve the pain. The area is then disinfected again. To protect and relieve the treated tissue, a tamponade or dressing is usually applied. Then the irritated tissue can regenerate perfectly and is better protected against pressure or impact.
A nail knife can also be practical for processing other nail problems, such as thickened or deformed nails. Like all podiatry instruments, it should only be used by qualified podiatrists and foot care professionals who possess adequate specialist knowledge. This helps to prevent injuries and complications.
