When skin is stressed and strained, skin care that relieves and is effective, along with hand hygiene, are essential. Protection against infections is increasingly becoming a priority. However, regular hand disinfection or the wearing of disposable gloves can also put a strain on the skin. To prevent cracked and dry skin, we recommend moisturising disinfectants that are gentle even on sensitive skin, along with gentle skincare products for dry, cracked skin. Hand sanitisation: Why does skin become stressed?
Hand sanitising has played an important role in skin hygiene and disease prevention long before the coronavirus pandemic. In medical and beauty professions in particular, hand sanitising is part of everyday working life. As hand hygiene reduces and prevents the spread of pathogens and germs, the correct disinfection of the skin and hands is a key aspect of health.
Proper skincare is just as important as hand disinfection. Regular disinfection can strip the skin of essential oils. This impairs the skin’s natural acid mantle. The result is dry or irritated skin, which becomes more susceptible to germs. You should therefore opt for gentle, skin-friendly disinfectants and rich skin care products.
Choosing the right skin care products
Whether to prevent skin irritation or to treat dry skin – choosing suitable skincare supports reliable hand hygiene without causing discomfort. Skincare products deliver moisture to the skin and help the acid mantle regenerate more quickly. This is especially important when using disinfectants regularly. In the medical sector, these products are used before, during and after work to strengthen the skin in the long term.
When looking for suitable skincare products, you can choose between a range of options. Skincare products are generally available in the following types:
- Creams: Between lipophilic, non-wash-off creams, there is generally a division. For dry skin, moisturising hydrophilic creams are particularly recommended. These form a protective film that replenishes moisture and simultaneously protects against dehydration. In this way, the skin regenerates noticeably.
- Skin care lotions: Compared to skin protection creams and balms, lotions have a slightly higher water content. They therefore provide easy, wide-area application if large areas of skin need to be nourished. They are quickly absorbed and usually leave no greasy film.
However, for highly stressed skin, it is advisable to use creams rather than lotions, as a lasting protective film promotes regeneration. Please note that, according to the hygiene plan, the directions for applying a protective cream before starting work and a skin care lotion during the day and at the end of the working day are as follows.
Choosing the right hand sanitiser
As soaps can also strip the skin of its natural oils, they can be easily replaced with skin-friendly natural soap or our skin wash lotion, which has a hand-friendly pH value and moisturising properties.
As reliable and standard-compliant disinfectants must cover a broad spectrum of activity to combat germs, viruses and bacteria, care must be taken to strike the perfect balance between effective disinfection and gentle application. It is important to ensure that the disinfectant covers the expected spectrum of pathogens (limited virucidal, limited virucidal plus or virucidal).
