The ERKI technique involves the use of plastic hooks, which are secured to the nail using an adhesive gel. Rubber rings of various diameters are attached to the ERKI hooks, depending on the desired tension. The tension is provided by the stretching of the rubber rings, which flattens the nail and thereby lifts the lateral edges of the nail.

Step-by-step: Prepare the patient’s nail plate (smooth and clean if necessary) Stick the ERKI hooks onto the nail; Select the rubber ring; Hook the rubber ring onto the first hook; Pull the cover tube over the rubber ring; Hook the rubber ring onto the other hook; Secure the cover tube in the middle to the nail using adhesive gel; Check every 3–4 weeks; replace the rubber ring if necessary
