The right podiatry drill for professional treatment
A high-performance podiatry drill is essential for professional medical foot care and nail design. Whether for a mobile practice or in a clinic, electric podiatry drills are part of the basic equipment for podiatry, pedicures and manicures. They enable the shaping of misshapen nails along with callus removal, smoothing and the treatment with artificial nails. Depending on the drill, a distinction is made between dry techniques, wet techniques and Podiatry Drills without suction. The benefits provided by a Podiatry Drill depend on the specific area of application, the required removal capacity and whether it is reusable.
What is a Podiatry Drill used for?
Podiatry Drills are used for professional podiatry, treatment, pedicures and manicures. Key functions and areas of application include:
- Shaping misshapen or thickened nails

Podiatry Drills are divided into three categories depending on the technique used:
Dry technique
The dry technique, also known as the suction technique, is one of the most popular methods. This involves the use of a suction system integrated into the Podiatry Drill. This provides the benefit that any grinding dust released is immediately sucked up at the handpiece and stored in the accompanying dust bag. Treatment areas therefore stay clean during podiatry, the field of vision remains unobstructed and hygiene in the treatment rooms is maintained at the highest level. Wet technique

Especially do not overlook the arguments that, in our view, can be considered disadvantages of the wet technique.
Technology without suction
The third option comprises Podiatry Drills that use neither dry/wet technique nor suction. These can be compressed-air-powered treatment units that use compressed air via an air supply hose instead of micromotors.
What else should you look out for when choosing Podiatry Drills?
An important factor for professional podiatry treatment is the attachments for nail drills. The following materials can be used with these:

- Diamond bur
- Alumina and stone
- Stone/sandpaper abrasive caps

Proper cleaning and disinfection of Podiatry Drills
Hygiene is the A & O: After every use of compressed air-powered or electric Podiatry Drills, the surface of the drill and the treatment area must be wiped down with a disinfectant. The burs and grinders that have been used for treatment should be capable of being disinfected and/or sterilised, depending on the application and legal requirements for hygienic reprocessing.
